If a career opportunity has brought you to the sunny city of Santa Clarita, you’ve lucked out. Located some 35 miles away from L.A., Santa Clarita has been selected as one of the 20 most livable cities in the country — the only California city to break into the top 20.

With that being said, what is it that makes Santa Clarita a great city to live in? In this guide, we give you a list of five things you can expect to see if you’re relocating to Santa Clarita.

Hike to the St. Francis Dam

Built in the 1920s, the St. Francis Dam is one of Santa Clarita’s most notable historical attractions. The dam collapsed in 1928, flooding several towns and killing hundreds of people. Today, guides will take visitors on a historical tour of the dam, which now lies in ruins. Still, the hike to the dam site is a memorable one, giving you the opportunity to see what remains of the disaster.

Family Fun at the Mountasia Family Fun Center

If you’re moving to Santa Clarita with your family, the Mountasia Family Fun Center is definitely a must-visit. This entertainment destination has the greatest hits of gaming and amusement parks, including go karts, bumper boats, and mini golf courses. If you and your kids want to break a sweat, there are batting cages, a rock climbing wall, and a laser tag room. Make sure you end the day with a sweet treat at the ice cream parlor.

Hit the Outdoors at Vasquez Rocks

If there’s one word to describe Vasquez Rocks, it’s gorgeous.

Used as a filming location for shows like New Girl, Friends, and the Big Bang Theory, the Vasquez Rocks Natural Area Park is an outdoorsman’s mecca, featuring picnic areas, multiple hiking trails, and natural walls for rock climbing. When in doubt, spend the afternoon just marveling at the park’s many rock formations formed by millions of years of erosion.

Get Your Adrenaline Fix at Six Flags Magic Mountain

Of course, no visit to Santa Clarita would be complete without visiting Six Flags Magic Mountain. Drop by and see if you can make it through all of the park’s 19 “big kid” rollercoasters. Of course, there’s a children’s rides area for your little ones, but Six Flags’ claim to fame will always be its crazy rollercoasters.

Spend Time with the Animals of the Gibbon Conservation Center

Take the family on a visit to the Gibbon Conservation Center and learn more about the “singing” apes of Asia, the gibbon. Because it’s a conservation center and not a zoo, the place is only open on weekends, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., but private tours are also available upon request. Your support will help understand and protect one of the most endangered primates in the world.
